Hi, this is a quick question/analysis regarding the J-11B testbed that was used for AESA. The original claim is that it is testing the radar for the J-11D. However, here is another theory: could it be testing the radar for installation onto existing J-11B fighters? Or perhaps the J-11D is the codename for the J-11B AESA upgrade? There were many rumors regarding such a retrofit and there was a sign in which 607 institute's supposed radar won a bid to be equipped onto the aircraft. Another theory is that it is testing the radar for the upcoming batches of J-15, which will have AESA, as well as the retrofit for earlier J-15 builds.
What do you think of the theory?

Yes, it is likely that the AESA radar being tested could be used to upgrade the existing J-11B and J-15. However the AESA for J-15 would be somewhat different due to its different combat environment.
