I came across your entry on the J-15 and noticed that you listed a passive electronically scanned array radar (PESA radar) as its avionics. However, I have always thought that the AESA radar from 607 institute was the chosen one for the J-15, J-11B, and J-16. Can you please clarify? Why would the J-15 have a significantly different avionics configuration from the similar J-11B, J-16?

All major sources (Carlo Kopp, various Chinese sources, Fisher, Chinese officials,...) all assert that it's using an AESA like the others.

The rumor I heard was that the PESA from 607 Institute was chosen for J-15 instead of the AESA from 14th Institute, probably due to the cost. Of course 607 has its own AESA too.

will J-15 possess super cruise capabity? I remember a newspaper report that PLAN is seeking long range naval fighter capable of super cruise capability.
I try to look at what date, surely you remember it, problably around 2007 or 2008.

Are you sure about that? Many Western and Chinese sources, including test pilot Lei Qiang and Carlo Kopp, stated that the J-15 has AESA.

Are you sure about that? Many Western and Chinese sources, including test pilot Lei Qiang and Carlo Kopp, stated that the J-15 has AESA.

Now it seems to me that J-15 is just equipped with a navalized Type 1493 radar from J-11B in order to cut cost/time/risk.
