mil.news.sina.com.cn/jssd/2017-06-17/doc-ifyhfnqa4387018.shtml this is according to a chinese website. few months ago, either late 2016 or early 2017,back issue of kanwa. sukhoi told Kanwa they been approached by shenyang to redesign J-15,the aircraft itself is based on SU-33.according to there proposal.the improve variant will adapt aft center of gravity or "releaxed static stability" thus J-15 do not need forward canard to achieve manuevirity..equally simplify the production process. according to kanwa.sukhoi admited SU-33 is very complicate and expensive to produce.that why it was abandoned.Shenyang more likely.like the russian encounter similiar problem.

Since when is KANWA a reliable source Also why should SAC ask Sukhoi to redesign an illegally copied Su-27K ?? ... and even more why should Sukhoi react to this request ? IMO pure BS.

Sina is extremely inaccurate! I remember them bashing the J-15 4 years ago for its alleged inability to carry heavy payloads (Flopping Fish is the name). This website actively quotes trash American outlets like "National Interest" or some garbage like that.

Sounds like bulls**t to me. Why would the SAC approach Sukhoi when they themselves are much further than the Russians ever were with the Su-33. Sina often quotes unreliable sources such as Kanwa or National Interest, so I would take them pretty lightly.

There are reports that the next "Flanker" version might have drastic changes (as compared to the basic Flanker design).
Have you heard of anything like that, Huitong?
