developement of fighter date link started in the 1959,November 25th, when PLAAF decided to established Semi_automatic_airdefense System,under the code name "project-1125"
but the problem is that all PLAAF fighter fleets were fitted with obsolete communication system,such as simple voice communication,not much different from WW-2 fighter navigation. the project were hamper by low technological-industrial base and and blow from cultural revolution.the project going no where.until They obtain MiG-21MF thru romania.included the aircraft was Mig-21MF data link.while the eqipment by this time,may not consider state of art,nevertheless it given Chinese engneers a road map.(it is more likely,china may also obtain from downed US aircraft in vietnam,but the article do not mention it).
since then China embark of the development several data link terminal,most western avaition writer believe nothing more than link-4C,the first aircraft to be fitted with FDL was F-8B and F-7-3 .
it was no until during the mid-90's when PLAAF received SU-27Sk TKS-2-27,but this time US is development replacement for Link-16.
Link-16 has transfer bit of 238k/sec.which is consider insuffficient for modern net working,the replacement progam TTND with 2M/sec transfer rate enter service in mid-2000.By then chinese communication equipment reach maturity,during the 2014 Zhuhai airshow, Lab-513 displayed Link-TTD-S (likely refering to DTS-03) data transfer speed at 2m/SEC,similiar to US TTDS ,provide secure voice and data communication,range air to air quote at 400km,air to ground-350km it also incorporate Ad-Hoc networking.
